I'm about halfway through Inheritance, the final book in Christopher Paolini's Inheritance Cycle (which I'm sure you must know if you're taking the time to read this) and I woke up this morning with a brilliant theory that Lady Nasuada is the next Dragon Rider!
[I'm now on the chapter A Maze Without End so please don't spoil this (and also don't judge my theories)]
I can't think of any other reason why Galbatorix would want to kidnap her; he's obviously not doing it to lure Eragon to Uru'baen because duhhh Galbatorix, he's going there anyway. Also, what a perfect plot to get Eragon to swear fealty to him, by capturing one who he has already sworn fealty to! And! The reason they didn't take Roran instead is because of all the other people who have sworn fealty to Nasuada and really, who cares if Roran dies - that would make it more of a family feud than a war of Alagaesia; people would just give up and go home and let the dragon riders settle their own problems.
I didn't mean to write so much already, it's just all coming into place as I write. But anyway, then Eragon could totally get Nasuada to change so that her true name changed and then her oaths to Galbatorix would break and she could turn against him AND THEN THE ERAGON/NASUADA SHIP COULD HAPPEN BECAUSE C'MON THERE WAS TOTALLY CHEMISTRY BETWEEN THOSE TWO IN THE FIRST BOOK.
So yeah. I'm probably completely wrong but it's canon for now ok.
