Initially I thought this'd be a silly thing to do because I can't even remember what I did this year except for studying and watching The Rocky Horror Picture Show a gazillion times, and last year was pretty damn great too, so I'm combining the two years weowoe with bonus pictures (some are stolen sorry about that)!
P.S. I haven't put in the years because 2012/2013 is all a mixed blur to me
P.P.S. it's a countdown but really these events were all as whack as eachother
#7 GISHWHES!
The Greatest International Scavenger Hunt the World Has Ever Seen! Our Sydney-based team was paired up with a team from Texas and Team MichaelCerasDonutLovesThatsTotesInnapropro was born. Along with meeting some fun fun people, we got to do some fun fun things like eating burritos outside labs, feeding the homeless, and hugging people. LOTS of hugging.
#6 Nerdfighters!
Back in 2010, I think I mentioned becoming a Nerdfighter? Well, last year, I started actually going to gatherings that were organised on facebook and fhdsjkalfkj it somehow eased the transition from high school into the real world (i.e. it meant it didn't matter if I couldn't make friends in uni, because I had cool nerdy friends anyway :)). The past two years have been so fantastic and I have never been so comfortable with a group of strangers as I was with y'all. Look at this. We're in a drain.
#5 Travel!
I went to Auckland, NZ, then I went to Fiji. Both were nice. Especially NZ though, because Hobbiton ??!?! Also, not sure if this belongs under this heading or my #1 but I'm going to the USA next year for some Harry Potter shenanigans (!!!!!!!!!)
#4 Science!
Last year I got into a Bachelor of Science at UWS which was super great at first but Macquarie was my #1 choice so I was totally pumped when I got into Macq. this year! Pretty campus, much more flexible science degree, IT EVEN HAS ITS OWN TRAIN STATION @_____@
In other science news, I went to see Professor Brian Cox, he's so D:Reamy (ohohohoho). Also, a few edutubers made their way down to sydney for some events this year lOOK AT ME WITH ALL THESE COOL PEOPLE + fellow nerdfighters in the two left ones (clockwise: SmarterEveryday, MinutePhysics, Veritasium, AsapSCIENCE)
Firstly, there was Sydney Supanova 2012 aka the year I went just to have fun and not worry about photo ops. But then I fell in love with Natalia Tena so I
Then at Syd. Supanova this year, my good friend Hayley and I asked the Phelps twins to pull the most disgusting face they could, and this was the result. A thing of beauty.
Later that day I met Aidan Turner and I almost cried because I'd just rewatched season 3 of Being Human that week and everytime he smiled it reminded me of all the times he smiled in BH which was in like two whole scenes and I just miss so much when everyone in that show was happy nO TV SHOW HAS MADE ME CRY SO MUCH GHSIALDKJ. (btw I lost the original photo, so this beautifully edited one is the only one I have rn, great going christine. I'm Annie btw). FULL STORY HERE.
#2 Concerts!
The Darkness. what. Seeing my favourite band with my best friend ?? YOU BET IT WAS GREAT. They played a beautiful set which included Justin Hawkins changing into three different outfits, Justin Hawkins riding on a bodyguard's shoulders through the crowd and guitar-soloing Love On The Rocks With No Ice (crowd-surfing was strictly forbidden at venue), Justin Hawkins throwing multiple plectrums at a topless girl in an effort to get one between her breasts, and idk I think they might've played some songs too. Hey, it's a cool photo I took of Justin Hawkins!
Adam Ant. I don't remember why this was such a great gig but it really was. Probably something to do with me getting a hella good spot I mean damn wow look @ dis
They Might Be Giants. Okay these guys were ace. It was great being around such nerdy people watching one of the nerdiest bands play, and hearing so many people singing about why the Sun shines. Science, man. Awesome.
Amanda Palmer and the Grand Theft Orchestra. OKAY LEMME TELL YOU ABOUT AMANDA FUCKING PALMER. I entered one of those dodgy competitions to win two tickets aND I FREAKIN' WON. Unfortunately, I couldn't find a single person who wanted to come with me. Y'all dicks and missed out on possibly the greatest gig you would ever go to. Probably. Amanda Palmer has this way of making everyone else in the room feel sUPER important. She crowdsurfed, introduced the opening acts herself (Die Roten Punkte btw (they have a song about a vegetarian dinosaur who works in a burger store, poor thing)), and at the end of it all she went out and did signings uGH. At one point Palmer asked for the house lights to be turned off, the band abandoned their instruments and it was just everyone singing "I love you so much" over and over again and the girl next to me was crying and it was such a beautiful moment that I started crying too and gOD after that I loved everyone in the world so much.
#1 HARRY POTTER IS BACK MUDBLUDDZ
OKAY YOU HAVE NO IDEA HOW EXCITED I AM ABOUT ALL OF THIS.
FIRSTLY, A FANTASTIC BEASTS AND WHERE TO FIND THEM MOVIE SERIES???? WHAT?!?!?! YES?!! THEN A SCREENPLAY OF HARRY'S PRE-HOGWARTS LIFE ???? okay that one I'm not that excited about because really how interesting could Harry's life had been before Hogwarts? But I'm still super interested in where J.K's planning to take that.
BUT SERIOUSLY, THE NEW MOVIE/S ?? HUHWHAHWAIHSIHJSF. IT'S SUCH A GOOD IDEA! Ugh. So excited to hear about new castings and film locations and just more Harry Potter news in general. It's not over, guys.
I'm really glad I picked next year as the one to go to LeakyCon :')
Happy new year, everyone.
